Book Review: “The Pythagorean Solution” by Joseph Badal

3.5-Watertowers(Greece)

Genre: Thriller

In 1945, a ship sinks taking with it untold treasure and information that can doom a present day Swiss banker and his fortune.  Until now this ship has remained missing….

Present day, John Hammond is recently divorced and decides to get his life back in order on the island of Samos, Greece where he spent a year and a half of his life with nothing but good memories.

While walking back to his hotel, John stumbles into an old man who has been shot.  Before he dies, the old man (Peter Vangelos) mutters a few words about his life and family and indicates that John take what is in his boot.  John does, but, as he walks away he finds himself being shot at.

Damn…..

Back in the hotel room, John looks at the map (from the old mans boot) but cannot make heads or tails of it.  He then calls the police and sets in motion the events (the search for the missing ship) that put his life (and that of the Detective Christo Panagoulakos and the old mans daughter, Zoe) in peril.

“The Pythagorean Solution” is 98% thrilling fun  and 2% repetitious (the last battle took the battle scenes one step too far).   I have never read, or even heard of, Joseph Badal and I thoroughly enjoyed his writing style.  I also loved the Greek settings and history lessons.
