Josh Blay and Edie Lewell developed a Youtube sensation cartoon called “The Ink Black Heart”.
In an interview on Sept 14, 2011…the interviewer summed the cartoon up very nicely: “So, a cartoon about decomposing body parts, a couple of skeletons, a demon (Drek), and a Ghost…..how do you explain its success?”
To which Edie replied: “I genuinely don’t know”.
One thing, we as readers do know, is that the followers of the cartoon are rabid and that at least two anonymous people, Anomie and Morehouse, developed a game, and chat room, “Dreks Game” loosely based on “The Ink Black Heart” cartoon….and that game is also a rousing success.
The book picks up where Anomie is shown to hate Edie calling her a “Pretentious fucking bitch”.
Late one Friday afternoon an unkempt young woman, possibly mentally challenged, visited the offices of the “Strike and Ellacott Detective Agency” and told Robin that she is being harassed and bullied by Anomie and that she is afraid of the real person as “Anomie” is becoming more belligerent and hateful online.
She was hoping that Robin and Cormoron could find out who Anomie is before something bad happens.
Unfortunately, Robin turned her down as the agency is very busy and couldn’t spare anyone to help her.
A few days later…..Robin saw the headline:
“Highgate Stabbing Victims Were Creators of Cult Cartoon”
Realizing her mistake turning the unkempt young woman down…..all hell breaks loose as Strike and Robin work to find Anomie (and Morehouse)……
To see what happens and see who survives and who dies…you can read the book. 🙂
“The Ink Black Heart” is a a terrific, VERY LONG, book of 1012 hardcover pages weighing in at 2 pounds 11 ounces. But every word is mesmerizing as only someone like J.K., errr…Robert Galbraith, can write.
Loved it!
More Galbraith….
