The ending of “Phantom” left you wondering if the words on the next book, “Police”….”A New Harry Hole Novel” was wrong!
After many pages where the author seems to have picked up a new, evil, trick of misdirection, we finally find out that, yes, Harry is alive and well and teaching at the local police academy.
Whew!
Not only that, he and Rakel are getting along nicely, and Oleg seems to have been well protected, by Harry, from his trip to the dark side in “Phantom”.
Now…..on the anniversaries of unsolved murders….police are being brutally (to put it mildly) murdered, at the original scene of the crime, and the new, young, Police Chief Mikael Bellman is taking the heat for not solving the “Cop Killer” murders….
Then another cop is murdered and chopped up in little pieces forcing this reader put the book down to mourn the loss of my fav character……possibly forever.
I got over it after a few days….and the murders continued, and if you can believe it….they are even more brutal and gory.
Then……
Oh, to find out what happens, and who sadly dies, you will have to read the book. If you are invested in Harry Hole….prepare for sleepness nights….and mourning….damn you, Jo Nesbo! 😦
Nesbo uses his new evil trick of deception throughout the book. This new technique is totally frustrating and keeps you from knowing / guessing what is truly going on until he specifically tells us. Arrrgghh……:-)
Great read!
But the saddest for me….. 😦
I asked Google Gemini AI to write a 350 word summary….here it is:
Jo Nesbo’s Police is a gripping thriller that follows the haunting tale of a serial killer targeting Oslo’s police force. The killer, known only as the “Policeman,” is exacting revenge on officers involved in unsolved cases, brutally murdering them at the scenes of their past failures.
The department, desperate for answers, turns to the enigmatic detective Harry Hole, who is reluctantly drawn back into the fray. Hole, known for his unconventional methods and troubled past, is the only one who seems capable of unraveling the killer’s twisted motives. As the body count rises and the city is gripped by fear, Hole must confront his own demons while racing against time to catch the elusive killer before more innocent lives are lost.
Police delivers a chilling exploration of justice, revenge, and the psychological toll of unsolved crimes. Nesbo masterfully weaves a complex narrative filled with suspense, twists, and morally ambiguous characters, making for a thrilling and unforgettable read.
More Jo Nesbo…..and Blaze who is now 9 years old!
