Miracle Springs, North Carolina bookstore owner and ex-librarian, Nora, was chatting with a man sitting on a bench as she was feeding the gathering birds pieces of her scone.
Her scars were of interest to him but not as much as his feeling bad about some of his decisions. He said a woman at the healing pools mentioned that the bookstore owner is into “bibliotherapy” and Nora said that she is not a professional but is interested in recommending books that might help.
She told him to stop by her bookstore after he gets a scone from the Gingerbread House and for him to tell Hester, the owner, to make him a comfort scone and let her know he is heading to the bookstore for a “session”.
Nothing happens until the news that a man has died near the railroad track, killed by the incoming train!
He was the man Nora talked to earlier and Nora, Hester, and friends June and Estella meet shortly thereafter to form a mystery solving group:
