Book Review: “Amok” by Barry Eisler

Genre: Thriller

1991

Former Marine, Carl Williams (aka Dox) is now home in a small town in Texas after spending two years in Afghanistan fighting with the Mujahideen against the Russians.

Now….at home…..he has more difficult issues to take care of before heading out to Timor, Indonesia….family!

Dad Roy is about to get out of jail, but the rest of the family (who all suffered at Roy’s hand) want him to stay there.

Dox is unsure.

Luckily Timor takes precedence and Dox travels into a 16 year old occupation by the Indonesian gov’t with the task of observing a young Doctor, Isobel Amaral, suspected, by the CIA, of siding with the rebels.

All hell breaks loose when Dox arrives, and……..

Oh, to find out what happens you will have to read this book. 🙂

“Amok” is a Dox prequel (who is 26 years old in 1991). Dox, at this age, already knows of a half-Japanese guy with a “stick up his ass” named Rain, but, make no mistake…..this action-packed book is all about Dox.

More Barry Eisler….
